Learn more about our car donation program and how you can help our veterans in need.

How does the car donation process work?

We have made the car donation process easy and pleasant for vehicle donors. To donate your car, you may complete our easy-to-use online car donation form. If you would like to speak with a representative for more information on how to donate your car within your specific area, please call us at 1-888-480-VETS (8387). Once we have received your information, your car will be picked up in a timely manner and your IRS tax deductible donation receipt will be sent to you.

How is the value of my car donation determined?

The IRS allows the donor to determine the fair market value up to $500. If we sell your donated car for over $500, the IRS allows you to claim the selling price as a deduction. We do all we can to maximize the selling price of your car, this way you can get a larger tax write off and more funds go back to our veterans.

When donating a car, does it have to be a running car?

No. We accept ALL car donations - whether running or non-running.

What areas do you serve?

We accept car donations in every city in all 50 states.

Do you accept other donations besides vehicles?

Yes. In most cases, we also accept boats, car, trucks, vans, conversion vans, motorcycles, RV's and property.

What documents do you need from me if I donate my car?

If you decided to donate your car, we need the title for the vehicle you are donating and a lien release or original termination statement if there was ever a lien holder listed on the title. You will need to sign your name on the signature of seller line located in the first assignment area of the title. Please sign your name as it appears on the front of the title. If more than one person is listed as an owner on the front of the title, they must also sign on the signature of seller line.

If I donate my car, how does it get picked up?

Once you have completed the car donation process, one of our professional towing companies will contact you to schedule a convenient date to pick-up your vehicle. When the towing company arrives to pick-up your vehicle, they will also pick-up the title and keys for the vehicle.

Is there a charge for towing?

No. If you decide to donate your car, we will provide free towing.

I cannot donate my car but would like to help support our veterans with a monetary gift.

If you cannot donate your car but would like to extend help to our veterans, we would greatly appreciate monetary support. We accept monetary donations via check at this address: 1700 W. Hamlin Rd. Suite #201, Rochester Hills, MI 48309.

Do I have to be home when my donated car is picked up?

No. If you will not be home on the date of the scheduled pick-up, you will need to advise the towing company specifically where in the vehicle you will be leaving the title and the keys. The towing company will leave you a towing receipt showing that your vehicle was picked up on behalf of Cars Helping Veterans. Remember to remove your personal belongings and take off the license plate on the day the vehicle is scheduled to be picked up.

How long will it take to have my car donation picked up?

Your car will be picked up within 48 to 72 hours after you have completed the car donation process. We can also expedite towing to pick-up your vehicle within 24 hours if necessary.
